Under Dark Skies

**I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**

Cover
It’s kind of a creepy cover isn’t it? I think it’s pretty cool though. I love the Nightshade Forensic FBI Files part. It looks really cool.

Initial Thoughts
Have you ever started a book and could immediately tell it was going to be good? That’s exactly how this book made me feel after reading the first paragraph. Maybe it’s the writing style or the author just made a really good impression, but I knew I was going to like this book.

My New BFF
I love Eleri so much! She’s really interesting to me because we get little peeks into her life but it’s just enough to keep me wanting more. She also has a great personality and it fits well with the personality of her partner. I also love how she seems really perfect until you really get to know her. It’s almost like getting to know an actual person, slow and steady. Nothing is pushed at you all at once. Even at the end after finding out she isn’t perfect, she’s still such a great character with so much personality that you can’t help but love her.

My Crush
I don’t know if I’d say Donovan is my crush or not. Maybe a little bit because he is also a great character. It was harder getting to know him because he’s much more reserved than Eleri. It’s actually Eleri that starts to figure stuff out about him instead of him telling anyone else. I think his personality goes great with Eleri’s. They aren’t completely opposite but they both see things in different ways and it helps them put the pieces of their case together.

Writing Style
At the very start of this book I could tell it was going to be quirky and fun just by the writing style. It’s well written but it also has so much personality in the writing. I found it was easy to read and the information really stuck in my head. I really loved that there was no romance in this book. Maybe there will be later on but realistically there’s no way the two characters would fall in love so quick. I’m really grateful that the author kept their relationship simple and realistic.

Closing Thoughts
I really, really loved this book. I could not put it down. The characters were great and both had different personalities. I really loved how subtle the supernatural parts were. We didn’t even know there was going to be supernatural aspects until a little ways into the book. It was like a mystery within a mystery! It was so much fun trying to figure out the supernatural parts but then trying to figure out the case they were working on too. I was never bored because I was constantly trying to figure everything out. This will not be the last book in this series that I read. I can’t wait to see where Eleri and Donovan go next!

Under Dark Skies

A secret covert division of the FBI made up of unusually talented agents ? Why not ? This was a blast to read. If you like a good FBI thriller with a dose of the truth is out there you will enjoy this book immensely. Great characters with loads of action and a plot you will eagerly devour, you won’t be able to put this one down.

"There are only two kinds of readers: Those who are fans of A.J. Scudiere, and those who will be."

Vengeance

“Seriously one of the best action/suspense books I've ever read.”

Retribution

Best series since Dragon Tattoo!

The Hunted

This book is a wild, full-throttle ride from the first page! It's also fascinating, terrifying, and smart!

The Shadow Constant

After having read three of her books, I'd say she's in the top five of my best writers list. I have a list of King, Grisham, Koontz...you know, those guys. They are the authors you know will deliver.

Phoenix

An excellent mystery with some very, very surprising twists.

Justice

Expect the unexpected. That is the mantra for this book, the best of the three in the series.

Very fast-paced, in-your-face action thriller, with a surprise seemingly at the end of each chapter. And with the revelation at the end of the second book - that is saying a lot.

Fortune (red)

i thought i had...then i didn't, then i did. then...i gave up trying to guess!

Fortune (gray)

She is on a par with Andrea Norton, Marilyn Zimmerman Bradley, Lois McMaster Bujold.

The Tempest

Just when you think you have things figured out, a twist takes you in another fun direction. Anyone who enjoys an action packed thriller should not miss this book.

The Surface

I thought after Hunted, A.J.Scudiere could not write a better book! But WOW!!!

The Swarm

DAMN! Right into the action. My heart is already breaking for...

Resonance

When most people think of science fiction, they think of a story that takes place in Earth's dystopian future, on another planet or deep in outer space, involves, monsters, aliens and robots or the effects of thermo-nuclear war. There is another type of sci-fi, though; a story set on Earth at the current time; a book that which involves actual scientific theories, yet is fictional; but it is a storyline that could very well occur tomorrow. A.J. Scudiere is a master of this type of story.
... I thought the story was going in one direction. Not much further into the book, the storyline went somewhere else, for a far more interesting and realistic read. A.J.Scudiere's books are like a roller coaster ride. They are fast-paced, full of unexpected twists, turns and flips, and when you are done, you want to jump on the next one right away.

God's Eye

I can't believe she's done it again. This is the third book by Scudiere that I've read/listened to the audiomovie and each one is so profoundly different and unique that it's amazing. There are a number of authors that I've read multiple books by and sometimes I can only read so many as they start to sound like the same story re-written with a little difference here or there. John Saul, who I read a lot of in my early teenage years, is a classic example of this writing style. Somehow Scudiere manages to write vastly different tales and each one is perfect and cherished in its own way.

Truly a wonderful read, as are Scudiere's other books. I highly recommend you pick this up and read it for yourself. It will make you think and you will fall in love with the characters, the angel, the demon, and of course, Katherine.

Fracture Five

If you want a “can’t put it down, leave me alone, I’m too busy reading to go to sleep” book, this is it.

The Camelot Gambit

Scudiere is a terrific writer and always keeps me guessing. But I was totally surprised in this one.

Resonance

Just when you thought you've read every possible global disaster scenario... Move aside global warming, volcanos, earthquakes and asteroids. Magnetic pole reversal is here, and it's scary. This book will have you carrying a compass, watching for strange animal behaviour and questioning every stomachache.

I loved this book. It's no secret that I'm a fan of world-threatening catastrophes. This book highlighted one possibility that I haven't really seen featured very often. It did so in a dramatic yet scientific way that made it seem scarily plausible.

Resonance

One of the best science fiction books I've read in many years. Resonance is right up there with the best of Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Asmov. AJ Scudiere creates a plot of alternate universes and a reversal of the earth's polarity in which nothing is quite as it seems and yet it is all so much more than it should be. You won't be able to put this book down once you start it. It moves like lightning and you will be confused at times but you'll be compelled to keep reading. Now that I've finished it, my first task is to find other titles by AJ and lose myself once again.

The Atlas Defect

Eleri and Donovan are seamlessly developed within the tapestry of story that keeps you turning the pages. They possess a fascinating mix of strengths and weaknesses that make their harrowing march toward truth breathtaking and plausible. This author does a masterful job weaving complex forensic science and fanciful fringe science. The blurring of the line keeps you on the edge as you take on the mission. You will feel everything. This book pulls you in. The NightShade Forensic FBI Files could only be written by someone with solid forensic expertise and a love for the fringe from where all science emerges. Bravo A.J. Scudiere!

Echo and Ember

I think its been a long, long time that I followed an author's books one right after another but these Nightshade books have me totally hooked! The characters are so well developed over the series and can't wait to see further revelations of Eleri and Donovan. I love Walter Reed. She was such a great addition to the team in the last book. My favorite thing is that it takes a long time to see where the story is going. I never see it coming and the way everything weaves in and out is a true mystery/crime story. Thank you AJ for giving me stories I can get lost in.

Salvage

But, I did. And I've got to tell you: this is NOT crap! This reads very well. It flows and describes, all of which makes this a colorful read. Charactor development is supurb. But the main reason this reads so well; it's believable. BIG plus there for me.
Garden of Bone

Dead Tide

Dead Tide was another fantastic book in the NightShade Forensic FBI Files series. It is a joy to experience the continued development of some of these main characters. It almost seems as though every time I believe I have them figured out, they develop a new quirk or a better understanding of themselves.

The pace of the story was frenetic... I would recommend this story to all fans of Scudiere as well as all fans of action/ thriller stories with a strong forensics backing. They will certainly enjoy it.

Sabotage

A.j. Scudiere is my favorite author. Her stories are imaginative, flawlessly written, and hard to put down. Book 9 of the nightshade series certainly fits. My regret is that book 10 has not been published yet and I've read all her other books already, some twice. This book and all of her books are highly recommended.

Vanishing Point

The NightShade Forensic FBI Files: Vanishing Point A.J. Scudiere is Book 1o in the series. I have read several other novels by A.J. Scudiere and I am always excited to plow into the next adventure!. This is a brilliant read ... well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with and wonderful world building. She uses crisp dialogue without unnecessary fluff or filler, three dimensional characters that come to life on the pages and a believable storyline made for a quick, entertaining read. Someone is dumping bodies in the Florida Everglades (gee and where do you suppose I live!) after torturing the victims. There’s no posed positioning, or even an attempt to hide their handiwork, making a profile nearly impossible to develop. The locals know more than they do, and Eleri and Donovan can’t even link the victims. Once i started this surreal and exciting adventure I could not put it down...
